The project of neglected diseases initiated by the Spanish and Latin American Academies of Pharmacy is a common meeting point, bringing together researchers and those interested in the study of these diseases which attack millions of people throughout the entire world, are understudied, and generally affect those with scarce economic resources. Neglected diseases include: Malaria, Leishmaniasis, Chagas, Human African Trypanosomiasis (African Sleeping Sickness), Schistosomiasis; Fasciolasis, Lymphatic Filariasis, Onchocerciasis, Dracunculiasis (Guinea-worm Disease), Soil-transmitted Helminthiasis, Tuberculosis, Leprosy, Buruli Ulcer, Trachoma, Cholera, Yaws Disease and Dengue. These disease cause 35.000 deaths daily. Treatments for these diseases are either inexistent or those that do exist are unsatisfactory due to their toxicity, problems for administration or due to the body’s growing resistance. This project brings together all of those who have interest in this topic as each person is working on one of the many aspects of these diseases. It is a project of horizontal and open nature, making it a useful reference for all. The main idea behind this project is that together, uniting efforts, important things can be done in this area. This collaboration is carried out regardless of the possibilities of contribution on the part of the individual researcher or group. One important purpose of this project is to offer a help make known the important work carried out by different groups who do not have access to the usual channels of diffusion. The main objective is to promote the preparation of competitive joint projects, work meetings, and the interchange of researchers. This project includes a network of sponsors from two different continents and from researchers from all over the world. All of the information found in these pages is at society’s service. Any confidentiality aspect that might arise regarding a given work will be the result of agreements made between the parties of interest. The project is open to everyone: Universities, Private Companies, Foundations, Institutions and Governments.
